Snow Man Christmas Cookies

I shoot stock photography on the side for istockphoto and so I'm always on the hunt for good stock subject matter. The main reason I shoot stock photography is for the learning. I've had around 50% of my photos that I submit stone cold rejected. The great thing is they give you a general reason why they have rejected the photo. This has helped me sharpen my skills (and my photos).

Anyone that knows my wife knows that when it comes to baking cakes and decorating cakes and cookies, she's food-channel-worthy.

Whenever she's in the zone I "sneak" in there with my 430ex Speedlight, hooked up to a light stand and a shoot-through umbrella. I trigger the flash with the ST-Transmitter by Canon.

I get pretty amazing shots in a hurry. I timed this micro-photoshoot yesterday. It took 28 minutes start to finish. I walked in with my light on a stand and 28 minutes walked out with some great shots and 3 delicious cookies.

What a great Christmas.

If you're not a fan of the strobist already you should be. The strobist blog details exactly how to execute perfect shots using 'off camera' strobes. There are a lot of options other than the one I have chosen to use (430EX with the ST-Trans). Be sure to check it out. I stream the rss on the left column of this blog.
